iPod Touch 4G Review

First of all I´d like to say it´s been a while since my last post, I´m sorry for that. I had a lot of other things to do so I wasn´t able to update this blog.

This iPod was meant as a Christmas gift from my parents. It was on sale at a local electronics store. Unfortunately they ordered it at their webstore. Apparently a lot of people bought it at the same time so we had to wait about four(!) weeks to get it delivered. 2012 had already begun.

Anyways, here’s my review:

The contents of the package
It comes in a pretty nice case, which you can use when you want to keep it in a safe place. It also comes with a data/charging cable and a pair of earphones. Unfortunately there wasn’t a charger inside.

First bootup
When I booted it up for the first time I was amazed by the screen quality. It’s the best screen I have ever seen! It’s far better than the iPad 1 I have. When I went through the setup, I was able to see the home screen for the first time. I immediately started downloading some apps to see the power this device gives. I also copied some music and video’s from my computer to it. The speakers are really good quality. I have an iPod nano 5G lying around somewhere, but that sound quality is kinda bad when you turn the volume up.
Buttons
The buttons on the iPod are also very efficient and easy to use.

Touch screen
The touch screen is just amazing. Unlike other phones/tablets where you have to push hard to make it respond, the iPod Touch just works when you barely touch it. This is really great.

The back of the iPod
The only thing I worry about is the back of the iPod, which is made of stainless steel. I already noticed some scratches on the back. I suppose that happens really easy.

iOS 5
Something I really like about iOS 5 is the notifications screen which shows up by sliding from the top of the screen to the bottom. You can see any missed calls (iPhone) and messages. Something else I really like is the FaceTime function. I use it frequently when I have to call someone who has an iPhone/iPod/iPad. Also, a lot of things work smoother in iOS five.

StarDock ObjectDock Plus 2.0

I am a huge fan of Apple and it’s products. Since I still use Windows as my main OS, I decided to make it look a little bit more like Mac OS X. I have tried a few different docks, but this application is exactly what I needed.

This is what my desktop currently looks like:

As you can see, it’s not completely done but it already starts to look like it.

StarDock Objectdock has a few customization options:

You can choose between a Quick Launch or a Tabbed Dock. A Quick Launch Dock is the dock you also see at the image and Mac OS X. With a Tabbed Dock you can place applications in different tabs and categorize them.
As you can see at the image above, you can have different tabs.

You can also change the background of the dock itself:
It comes with a few ‘Docklets’:
You can also change what the dock should do when you move your mouse over it:
As last but not least, you can change the performance options:

You can either set it up for speed, or for less memory. If you have a decent processor and enough RAM memory, you can set it to Optimize for quality. But it’s not needed.
You can get the Free version or the Plus version for $19,95.

Google Easter Egg

While it’s not easter, Google added another easter egg to their search engine. This time it’s about snow.

Last easter egg you were able to make the search results do a barrel roll by typing ‘do a barrel roll’ (without quotes). Click here to see it. (Does only work in Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox)

This time you can make it snow at the search results by typing ‘let it snow’. Click here to see it. (Does only work in Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox).

New design for YouTube

Last Friday YouTube released a completely new design. It’s now easier to view channels on the homepage. It should also be easier to follow channels where users are subscribed to.

The screen has been split up to three categories. On the left you find your own channel information or the buttons to log in and register. Under that you’ll find categories like trends, popularity, music and amusement. In the center category you find video’s from the channels you are subscribed to. On the right you find recommended video’s based on the video’s you watched.

HP decides quickly about future of WebOS

The American computermanufacturer announced last August that they will stop with their tablet and smartphone activities. It isn’t clear what going to happen with webOS. They want to announce it within two weeks.

In an interview with the French newspaper La Figaro HP CEO Meg Whitman said that HP will make clear what is going to happen with webOS within two weeks. HP bought the webOS platform from Palm in 2010 for 1,2 billion dollars.

HP released three smartphones with webOS, but none of the three became a success. The production of the webOS tablet was stopped shortly after the launch.
